Arequipa City and Colca Canyon Tour 4 days / 3 nights, Arequipa, Peru’s second largest city is located 1024 km (640 miles) south of Lima. It was founded in 1540 and is one of the country’s most attractive cities. Full of Colonial churches and mansions, including Santa Catalina, a restored Convent established in 1579 and now open to the public after being closed for 400 years, Arequipa is known as the White City because much of it is built of ashier, the smooth white building stone cut from volcanic lava quarries.

Three volcanoes dominate the skyline: Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu. North of Arequipa lies the spectacular Colca Valley, a picturesque Andean valley dotted with little towns founded in Colonial times.

The Canyon is one of the deepest in the World and home of the majestic Condor. Arequipa’s mild climate and altitude (2.300 meter above sea level – 7500 ft.) make it the perfect place to acclimatize before continuing your trip to Cusco or Puno.



Upon arrival, reception, assistance and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, we start a three hour sightseeing tour including the Santa Catalina Convent, the Plaza de Armas, the Jesuit Church of La Compañía and its beautifully-painted Chapel, the Church of San Francisco, the San Lazaro District, Selva Alegre and the typical Districts of Cayma and Yanahuara for a magnificent view of the Misti Volcano. Return to the hotel “La casa de mi abuela”.


Early in the morning, after breakfast, start your trip to the Colca Canyon, visiting on the way Pampas Cañahuas, the Mirador of the Andes, the Crater of Chucura, the Mirador of Chivay, where pre-Inca Cultivation terraces may be appreciated. Arrival to the Town of Chivay at 13:00hrs. approx. Transfer to your selected Lodge. Box lunch (light meals in the altitude).
In the afternoon free time to visit Hot Spring Thermal and Medicinal Baths. Hotel “Mamayacchi”.

After breakfast, very early in the morning, drive to the Condor’s Cross, a natural observation point from where the magnitude of the Colca Canyon and the spectacular flight of the majestic Condor can be appreciated. On the way back to Chivay, visit to the Mirador of Chinina, where we will find the famous cliffside Tombs and the Hanging Bridge of Sifón that joins the Town of Yanque with Coporaque. When at the Town of Yanque, visit its beautiful church and its characteristic cobbled streets among other attractions. To have spectacular views of the Colca Valley, we will drive to the Lookout points of Choquetipo and Artahuilque and also to the Town of Maca.
In the afternoon, return to the City of Arequipa, arriving at 18:00hrs. approx. Overnight at Hotel “casa de mi abuela”

Note: there is an option that we can take you straight to Puno city (5 hours’ drive, right after the Colca canyon tour) this day after the tour. So you don´t need to go back to Arequipa city.

The City Tour of Arequipa is a great way to get to know the impressive beauty of “La Ciudad Blanca”, A fascinating feature of the city is its many beautiful buildings made of a light-colored volcanic rock called “Sillar”.the White City. The tour includes sites such as the church and square of San Francisco, dome of La Compañía de Jesus, colonial homes, the Plaza de Armas and the unforgettable Convent of Santa Catalina, characterized by its narrow streets and different styles and famous in the 16th century. The Convent of Santa Catalina, perhaps the most fascinating colonial religious building in the country, was until recently home to almost 450 nuns. There is a good chance to see the sacrificed Inca´s children, they frozen and are in great conditions, they are in a museum there in the city.

A drive through the mountains and Volcanoes, The condors can be seen at close range as they fly past the canyon walls, and are the region’s most popular attraction. ‘Cruz del Condor’ is a popular tourist stop to view the condors, an overlook where condors soar gracefully on thermals of warm air rising from the canyon. At this point the canyon floor is 3,960 feet (1,200 m) below the rim of the canyon.

Colca Canyon is a canyon of the Colca River in southern Peru, located about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Arequipa. It is Peru’s third most-visited tourist destination with about 120,000 visitors annually. With a depth of 10,725 ft (3,270 m),[2] it is one of the deepest in the world, second in Peru after the Cotahuasi Canyon and more than twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the United States. The Colca Valley is a colorful Andean valley with pre-Inca roots, and towns founded in Spanish colonial times, still inhabited by people of the Collagua and the Cabana cultures. The local people maintain their ancestral traditions and continue to cultivate the pre-Inca stepped terraces.

Weather: The Arequipa weather is one that is relatively warm and rather dry, all through the year. Arequipa lies on the border of the southernmost tip of Peru’s Desert Coast and the Andes and hence enjoys plenty of strong sun with daytime temperatures rarely falling under 20°C.

At night however temperatures in Arequipa can drop sharply, particularly in June, July and August, when evening temperatures hover around 10°C and winds can pick up making it feel quite chilly.

*Note: from the Colca Canyon tour we can fix you travel directly to Puno Lake Titicaca just 5 hours’ drive, so you don´t need to travel back to Arequipa again.
